What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It’s also called microplaning or blading.
Dermaplaning aims to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. This treatment claims to remove deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks on your skin. It’s also used to remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face.
Dermaplaning can be used for any skin type and anyone with:
What happens during dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is done with a sterile micro-blade held at a 45-degree angle and brushed along the surface of the skin to remove thin layers of excess skin cells and fine hairs. This is then followed by a skin-soothing oil, or with our delux treatment, a mild ZO skin stimulation peel for extra exfoliation. The treatment is painless and does not require any numbing prior to treatment.
Will my facial hair grow back darker?
Not at all. Hair on the face is a type known as villous hair, rather than the dark, thick terminal hair that grows elsewhere. Shaving does not in any way cause vellus hair follicles to transform into terminal hair follicles.
What happens after the treatment?
You will notice an increased glow to the skin, evening of complexion, reduction of hyperpigmentation, improved skin tone, reduction of ‘peach fuzz’ vellus hair. Skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment but this normally subsides within an hour or so. Peach fuzz / vellus hairs do not come back thicker and stronger. It will grow back at exactly the same rate, thickness and texture as before.
Repeat treatment is recommended once every 1-2 skin cycles (approximately 6-12 weeks).

What is SHR™ ('In-Motion™) technology?
SHR™ ('In-Motion™') technology works by combining red and violet light with radio frequency which is absorbed the dermal tissue delivering low intense pulses and radio waves resulting in shrinkage of blood vessels, pigments and hair follicles. SHR is also used for anti-ageing wrinkle and photo rejuvanation therapies as it tightens the skin and rejuvanates dormant ageing skin cells, and collagen.
Laser Facial Therapies
laser treatments are most commonly used for:
Lightening and removing "sun spots", "age spots", and brown blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body
Lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and "broken" blood vessels on the face, neck and chest
Helping to control flushing
It also has a lesser effect of improving skin texture through collagen stimulation and improves pore size minimally by temporarily reducing oiliness
Photorejuvenation, vascular or pigmentation procedures almost always consists of a series of 3-5 treatments, usually one every three to six weeks.
The benefits of photorejuvenation treatments are achieved with little discomfort and minimal risk. Some offices refer to IPL photorejuvenation as a Photofacial or Fotofacial.
How does the laser treatment improve the appearance of blood vessels, rosacea, and age spots/freckles?
The laser/IPL device emits a range of lightwaves that are then tuned and targeted at hemoglobin (the red blood cells in the blood vessels) or melanin (the brown pigment in freckles and age spots).
The light beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by either hemoglobin or melanin resulting in damage to the vessel wall or fragmenting of melanin pigment. These tiny vessels and the melanin pigment are then absorbed by the body, rendering them less visible.
How long does it take for laser photorejuvenation treatments to work?
Most people need 3-5 months, which consists of a full series of 3-5 treatments about 1 month apart. You can see some improvement with each treatment, but it's common for your response to be slightly different to each treatment. The more sun damage or redness you have, the more likely you are to need a full five treatments. Some cases of severe redness or brown spots require more than 5 treatments. Expect to see gradual clearing over time.
Do IPL Photofacial treatments hurt and how long will they take?
There may be mild discomfort or heat sensation during the treatment, but most patients tolerate removal of dilated blood vessels or age spots/freckles and fine lines very easily. The first treatment is usually the "zingiest." As your skin begins to clear, the treatments usually become even more comfortable. Treatments usually take 30-90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
What are the IPL Photofacial treatments like?
When you come to a laser center, you will be shown to a laser room. Your medical provider will put special glasses or eyepads over your eyes to protect them. A cool gel is then placed on the skin being treated. The smooth glass surface of the handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light flash. You may feel a very slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. Most centers will let you reapply foundation or concealer immediately after a treatment.
Does the IPL work for redness, rosacea and red spots & what will I look like right after the IPL treatment, and what is the healing time?
For veins, generally, the skin looks slightly redder after the treatment for two to five days. Makeup can be used starting right after the treatment, as long as it is applied and removed very gently. Rarely, there is bruising, which can take 1-2 weeks to resolve.
For freckles and age spots, the spots generally look darker for 3-7 days. Crusting can occur, which may last up to ten days. The lesions will then begin to clear and will generally be resolving at one month. Remember, it takes an average of 3-5 treatments to clear age spots.
How does SHR work for hair removal?
SHR works by gradually heating the dermis to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents re-growth, while avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue. A high repetition rate of short pulses are delivered deep into the dermis, achieving high average power and therapeutically effective heat build-up, with virtually no pain.
The system combines laser technology and the benefits of the pulsating light method achieving practically painless results. Even hairs which until now have been difficult or even impossible to be removed, can now be treated.
“In Motion” represents a breakthrough in permanent hair removal with light technology. The treatment is more pleasant than with the conventional systems and your skin is better protected.
What is the difference between the laser and the IPL technology?
Traditional laser or IPL technologies employ short impulses of approximately 2-300 milliseconds, applying a vast amount of energy (12-120 Joule on one square centimetre). Energy is transported to the hair root through melanin, where warmth of 65-72° Celsius is produced. Energy reaches the root of the hair follicle solely through melanin.
Skin and red blood cells have a similar absorption coefficient as melanin and therefore also absorb the high levels of energy produced by the laser and IPL methods. This can lead to swelling lasting several days or even to third-degree burns. SHR technology, on the other hand, utilizes the melanin path only partially (50%).
Skin is penetrated down to the follicles which produce hair growth. Conventional devices, not using SHR technology, merely transport energy along the melanin to the follicles.
SHR gently transports the energy through the skin and through the melanin to the hair follicles.
Research has shown that a slower, but longer heating process is considerably more effective for permanent hair removal than high and short levels of energy.
Therefore, when using SHR, the device is passed over the tissue 6-10 times (in motion) using low energy but a high rate of repetition (up to 10Hz, i.e. 10 times per second) instead of using the traditional method with single, high-energy impulses. Thus, the hair melanin, as well as the tissue of the stem cells, is heated with low energy at a slow pace and over a longer period of time (90 seconds) to a comfortable temperature of 45° Celsius.
SHR enables the successful treatment of blonde and, in part even white hair, given that the hair pigment is only secondary.
Which advantages does this have for you?
An optimal intensity can be achieved given that the same area is treated multiple times with low energy impulses. The treatment is more comfortable and the skin is better protected than with conventional methods.
How are different hair and skin colours affected?
Light skin with dark hair responds most favourably to the treatments. In addition to targeting the melanin, SHR-technology affects the chromphore, a protein located in the follicle, enabling the successful treatment of dark skin removing achromous, fine hairs.
What does the client feel during treatment?
Treatment with SHR is practically painless as opposed to treatment with the conventional IPL devices. On areas with dense hair growth, warmth from the light impulses is evoked and the light impulses may be felt to a much lesser extent than with laser or IPL.
Which areas can be treated?
Body hair can be removed on any part of the body. It is recommended a test be performed on a small patch before the first treatment.
How many treatments are necessary?
Until now hair had to be treated during the growing phase (20%-30%). In the telogen phase stem cells are in a resting phase but can still successfully be treated with the SHR system. Since growth cycles vary, approx. 8 treatments are usually necessary.
How long should the intervals between treatments be?
The hair growth cycle and the interval between treatments should correspond requiring spacing of approximately 6-8 weeks.
How much time is necessary for a treatment?
Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the time varies from 15 to 30 minutes for a facial treatment and about 3 hours for both legs.
Will there be any side-effects?
Skin is more sensitive in some areas of the body than in others and redness can occur as a side effect. It should disappear in a matter of hours but could potentially be as intense as a sunburn lasting a few days. Contrary to conventional methods, a light crusting which will vanish after 2-3 weeks, or an alteration of the skin’s pigmentation which will disappear after 4-6 months, are very rare.
Precautions to be taken before the treatment?
At least 1 week before the first treatment, intense sun exposure or solarium visits should be avoided. Hairs should not be waxed or plucked less than 6 weeks before treatment. Shaving is permitted any time. Areas to be treated should be shaved one day before the scheduled appointment.
Precautions to be taken after the treatment?
The skin’s natural protection is highly weakened after this intense light treatment. Therefore a high level of UV protection (30-50) in the form of suntan lotion should be applied for about 1 week. After 1-5 weeks hair will fall out. Shaving is possible any time but hair should not be plucked.
How does it work?
RF is completely non-invasive and is performed in a clinic or outpatient setting. Taking about 30 minutes per treatment area.
The technology works by heating up the skin, the dermis in particular to 42 degrees for 6-9 minutes per area using a rolling probe emitting RF waves. This changes the collagen formation and encourages fibroblast migration and laying down of new collagen, with skin remodeling taking place over months and lasting about 2 years. (A face lift lasts 5-7 years).
Some people only have issues with skin laxity eg the face or on the abdomen after childbirth or weight loss and not always with fatty tissue excess. In addition the RF wave passes about 2 cm into the fatty skin layer causing breakdown of the fat membrane, so fat is released and picked up by the lymphatic system and disposed of by the liver for excretion.
Thus cellulite and body contouring can be improved but one has to be realistic about the expectations. There is definite warmth of the skin, with occasional discomfort but burning is avoided by the moving of a unipolar and then bipolar probe that is hand operated. The skin tightening effect lasts about 2 years.
The fact the treatment is staged over weeks rather than a one off adds credence to the technology.
What can be treated?
RF is great for the face, chin line, slack jaw-line and full body, the abdomen, saddle bags, thighs, bingo wings etc. etc. It has FDA approval for the eye-lids as well.
How many treatments?
Usually 4-6. Re assess at 4 and be flexible about the remaining 2. in some areas 8 may be needed if cellulite is particularly deep or skin lax.
What age group?
There are no limits to the age group spectrum. Some clients have obvious ageing from mid 30s others do better with deeper lines and laxity not evident to the fifties. There is an advantage to starting a little younger (the forties) and planning an annual budget for maintenance.
Can it be used with other treatments?
Combination Therapy will give optimum non-surgical resultsRF can be used after other beauty treatments to tighten up an area that we predict may need further tightening afterwards - eg the neck or abdomen, or if there is residual cellulite.
How is the procedure done?
A handpiece with a smooth, flat electrode delivers radiofrequency (RF) technology, which safely heats the deeper layers of your skin. This stimulates existing collagen and promotes new collagen growth over time resulting in smoother, tighter skin.
What results can I expect?
During procedure, your esthetician will use radio frequency to precisely heat the skin's inner layer (dermis). Following treatment, you can immediately resume all routine activities. You may notice slight redness, which should disappear in less than 24 hours. To achieve good results, a package of eight to ten treatments in two-week intervals is required.Your skin will be smoother, firmer, and tighter immediately after your treatment.
You may also notice some contouring effects which will begin enhancing the shape of your face, abdomen, and thighs. After the procedure, you should continue to see improvements to your skin, as a result of the production of new and increased collagen, as well as some additional contouring effects due to continued tightening over time. Results vary depending on age and skin condition.
How soon will I see results?
Immediate results are usually visible and improve over time. Measurable tightening and contouring improvements appear gradually over a two to six month time period following treatment sessions. How long will the results last?Face and Body by procedures stimulate new natural collagen production for up to six months following a treatment package. Results can be long-lasting depending upon the age, skin condition and the patient’s natural aging process.
How many treatments will I need?
Your esthetician will determine the course of treatment that is right for you, based on your needs and goals.
Is it painful?
While pain tolerance is individual, most people response RF treatment well, and have little or virtually painless. Customers often describe the sensation as a 'warm massage'. The procedure is not accompanied by any significant side effects. After treatment, your skin may be very little red for less than 24 hours. But most people resume regular activities immediately after treatment, with no downtime or special follow-up care.
Who are best candidates for this?
For men and women who seek to keep perfect appearances not just on their faces but on their bodies as well, this is a perfect treatment to keep the body looking tight, firm and smooth for years to come.

Diamond microdermabrasion is a method of skin exfoliation similar to peeling that uses a specially designed instrument to remove the outer dermal layer, most commonly on the face.
It can help produce a more toned and youthful appearance, and may help counter the effects of aging, disease, or sun damage. The device projects very fine diamond particles onto the skin to clean the pores, loosening dead skin cells before suctioning them off, while massaging and stimulating the tissue beneath the skin to promote oxygenation and blood circulation.
The process of diamond microdermabrasion is quick and generally painless, with low risks and associated side effects. The procedure begins with a thorough cleansing of the affected area, which can include the face, hands, feet, back the neck, or chest.
The exfoliation instrument applies the diamond particles gently and evenly to clean, loosen, and remove unwanted tissue and massage beneath the external dermal layer. The skin is then treated with a toner and lubricating cream to protect it during the recovery period.
Diamond microdermabrasion can benefit both men and women of all skin types in the treatment of fine lines or wrinkles caused by aging or sun damage, acne, skin discoloration, and enlarged or clogged pores.
Women are advised to undergo the procedure after menstruation when their skin is less sensitive. It is not designed to treat warts, pronounced scars, Rosacea or herpes outbreaks, or birthmarks. It should not be used for the removal of tattoos, nor should it be combined with other skin rejuvenation procedures, such as chemical skin peels or laser resurfacing treatments.
A typical diamond microdermabrasion treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes. Patients are advised to limit their sun exposure following the treatment, but may return to normal activities immediately afterward. The treated area may feel tight and sensitive for a brief period after the procedure, but should return to normal after one or two days. Depending on the severity of the issue, multiple procedures may be required to achieve optimum results.
The procedure can be performed by dermatologists or estheticians, and can even be undertaken by patients themselves with the purchase of a diamond microdermabrasion kit. With any topical skin treatment, however, some risks of complications or injury can occur if the process is not conducted properly.
Patients should discuss the potential risks of any skin procedure with their doctor before attempting to apply such a treatment themselves. The effects of diamond microdermabrasion are not permanent. The outer dermal layer of human skin is constantly exposed to damaging elements, such as chemicals and the sun, as well as the natural aging process.
In order to maintain its youthful, toned, and healthy appearance, the skin may require more frequent rejuvenation treatments as patients grow older.

Laser Fungal Nail Therapy
Q: What is Laser Fungal Nail Treatment?
A: Fungal nail infections are a common problem that affect up to 3 in 100 people. The nail can become thickened and discoloured, making it unsightly and painful, sometimes causing difficulty in wearing shoes and possibly leading to more serious medical problems. Lasers are an effective, quick and affordable treatment of fungal nail infections.
Laser fungal nail treatment, also known as onchyomycosis treatment, works in two main ways; firstly, the laser kills the parasitic fungi that causes the infection, secondly, it stimulates the immune system and growth processes of the body to restore the nail quickly and effectively.
Q: Will i need a consultation and Patch Test
A: Yes! Before your treatment, we request that you come in and have a chat to one of our practitioners to check your suitability, set a treatment plan and perform a patch test.
Q: What is the Procedure
A: Before the treatment, the nail is filed down to remove excess layers and overgrowth. This allows the laser to work fully and evenly across the nail. The laser is then applied across the whole nail and perimeter of the nail bed as the infection has often spread into the skin around the nail as well as the actual nail. Often, all the nails on the affected foot will be treated as the infection may have spread but not yet be visible.
Q: How long will it take
A: Depending on the condition of your nail, treatment takes approximately 15 minutes and we recommend a course of 4-6 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart. We will suggest an individualised treatment plan for your requirements at your consultation with your specialist practitioner.
Q: Is it Painful
A: The treatment is mildly uncomfortable and the laser has been described as feeling like “pin pricks.” You will be awake during the treatment and local anaesthetic is not used. You may wish to take analgesia such as paracetamol prior to treatment to minimise any discomfort.
Q: Will there be any post treatment symptoms
A: Following your treatment, you may notice some redness and swelling for up to 48 hours. You may feel a little sore but simple analgesia such as paracetamol are normally all that is required. Rarely, the skin may be temporarily slightly discoloured and small blisters can appear which will heal in a short time.
Q: When will i see results
A: The effect of the laser treatment is normally shown within 6 weeks but the full effect can take 6-12 months while new nail and skin tissue are produced.

Does it hurt?
The treatment can be uncomfortable, and really depends on your pain threshold. For a comfortable experience we recommend attending your appointment on time to allow the topical anaesthetic application to have the required time to absorb and take effect in the areas you would like to have treated. The topical anaesthetic is applied for 30 mins for the best effect.
What is involved with the treatment?
Your practitioner will apply topical anaesthetic to the skin’s surface for 30 mins prior to the treatment, the cream will be removed and the treatment using a small, hand help pen shaped device will apply the treatment. A 60 min appointment is allocated to allow you to relax and receive your after care advice prior to leaving the clinic.
How long will it be before I see results?
An immediate tightening will be seen with the plasma pen and dermal fillers. Once healing has taken place you will see an improvement in skin condition and tone.
Collagen production and skin tightening gets progressively better over 10-24 weeks and continues to improve up to a year later.
How long does it last?
Once collagen is formed, the natural ageing process of breaking down the collagen will then take place. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors can contribute to the collagen breakdown such as UV exposure and smoking. However, depending on the amount of sagging skin, sometimes it may require more than a single session.
How many treatments will I need?
This is a single treatment, but depending on the skin laxity, more than one treatment may be required.
How will my skin look?
The skin will have multiple millimetre trauma marks to the skin’s surface, and as healing occurs the skin will appear dry and flaky. In the first couple of days, redness and swelling will be present. Every individual will vary, others may have more swelling, whereas some may swell for over a week. Pigmentation from the small marks can be present for longer if the scabs come away earlier than expected, for example when lying on one side of the face whilst sleeping.
What are the side effects and risks involved?
Tenderness, redness and swelling are common side effects and are to be expected following the treatment. As the skin starts to heal, itching may occur. After care gel that is included in the price of the treatment, should be used to alleviate the side effects. Other side effects are not limited to, but may include slight redness for a few weeks after the treatment, with a risk of scarring, infection and hyperpigmentation (darker skin) or hypo-pigmentation (lighter skin), being rare but possible.
Are there any specific after care tips?
You will be required to stay out of direct sun light during the healing process. Whilst the scabs are still present you won’t be able to get the areas wet such as having a shower, steam room, swimming or sweating from exercising.
How do I prepare for the procedure?
It is important to have a test patch prior to the treatment. No active sun exposure is important with no active tan being present for the test patch and treatment. We suggest not to apply any cosmetics beforehand, and you should let us know about any recent medical conditions and medications taken.
Is there anything I should do after the treatment?
We advise that you don’t take a hot shower on the day of the treatment, and to keep the area dry for the duration of the scabs being present. It is advised that you don’t apply make-up to the area for the duration of the scabs, as attempting to remove the makeup at the end of the day, can cause the micro-scabs to come away from the skin too early and cause scarring. Sun exposure should be avoided for 4 weeks after the treatment, sunblock application is highly recommended for 4 to 6 weeks after the initial treatment.
What are the contraindications to having the treatment?
Reasons you may not be suitable for the treatment are due to the following. In which case, we would ask for a specialist’s letter stating that they are happy for you to proceed with the treatment, where applicable:
·Metal plates or pins
·Severe circulatory deficiencies inc. ischemic tissue, thrombosis, severe uncontrolled blood pressure
·Severe Cardiovascular conditions
·Current or recent haemorrhage
·Malignancy and chemotherapy in the past 3 years.
We need to be cautious with certain illnesses, our nurse will confirm your full medical history prior to commencing any treatments.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment takes less than 30 mins, however, we allow 60 mins per treatment to ensure that you’re happy with the treatment choice and to ensure you’re happy to proceed. The skin is treated and an after care cream is applied.
Are the results after the treatment permanent?
Yes. Once new collagen is stimulated, new collagen is formed. It doesn’t however, stop the ageing process, therefore the natural ageing and collagen breakdown will occur. You can help reduce the natural ageing by protecting the skin from further UVA rays and external environmental damage.
